The Japan Federation of Medical Devices Associations
(JFMDA)
The Japan Federation of Medical Devices Associations (JFMDA) assumes the social role of contributing to the health and welfare of people and to realizing a high quality of life, while developing, manufacturing, importing and distributing medical devices. To this end, JFMDA is required to comply with various rules including applicable laws and regulations and to assume its position as a role model in society. With a decreasing birthrate, an aging society, the change in disease structure, and the improved awareness of people toward health, the environment surrounding health care is significantly changing. Thus, JFMDA is now in a position of greater responsibility. Under these circumstances, the member companies of the associations that have joined JFMDA (hereinafter referred to as "Members") shall carry out business activities by adhering to the high ethical standards that are expected of a health care related company.
Members shall be fully aware that medical devices play a highly involved role in the lives of human beings from birth through maintenance of life and are engaged directly in the fundamentals of health care. They shall also endeavor to contribute to the improvement of health care and obtain the confidence of society, while developing high quality, cost-effective technologies which can enhance the growth of the medical devices industry.
1) Members shall concentrate their efforts on the research & development and production of high performance medical devices in line with the advancement in science, including medicine. At the same time, they shall promote business activities that ensure, under adequate quality control, the safety and effectiveness of products along with their consistent supply, giving careful consideration to environmental issues.
2) Members shall comply with general laws and regulations and adhere to "The Charter of Business Behavior", "The Promotion Code of the Medical Devices Industry", and "The Fair Competition Code of the Medical Devices Industry in Japan", which were formulated as behavior standards for normal business practices in the medical devices industry. Members must also comply with applicable laws and regulations, aiming at the achievement of sound and proper business activities with a higher awareness of ethics.
3) Members shall recognize that fair and free competition in trade, both in Japan and abroad, serves as the very basis for the existence of a company. Under Japan's public medical insurance system in particular, Members shall make efforts to raise the spirit of compliance and conduct normal business practices in order to gain the confidence of society.
